Try These Stress Reducers Before
You Have a Total Meltdown
Using stress reducers on a regular basis to help you get rid of stress is something that you really want to consider doing. If you don’t learn how to effectively handle stress, it can have a devastating effect on your life.
Uncontrolled stress can lead to difficulties in relationships, problems with work, physical issues such as insomnia, headaches, and muscle pain, emotional problems including anxiety and depression, and an overall feeling that life is becoming too difficult to handle.
One of the most dangerous aspects of not managing stress effectively is that is can cause a heart attack -- or worse, death.
You can see that learning to deal with stress is something you want to put at the top of your to-do list.
What is Stress?
Stress is an interactive process between you and your environment. You feel a sense of stress as you adapt to the demands that are placed on you.
Can you Get Rid of Stress Completely?
No, you can’t. As long as you are alive, you will feel stress. While some stress can be useful because it causes you to take positive action in your life, stress that is overwhelming can have a major negative impact on your health.
When you perceive something as stressful, your body automatically goes into a fight or flight response. It gets you ready to either fight the negative situation or it helps you flee from it. During this flight or fight time, thousands of powerful chemicals are flowing throughout your body. This gets your body prepared for action. However, your body cannot tolerate having all of these chemicals moving through it on a regular basis because that is when it can cause you physical harm. It needs to return to a state of balance. Using stress reducers can help you do this.
Spiritual Stress Reducers
Some stress reducers such as yoga, qigong, tai chi, prayer, and mindfulness exercises help you handle stress while focusing on your spirit. They teach you to tap into your spiritual nature so you understand that you are more than just your mind and body.
Other Common Stress ReducersExercise – This is one of my favorite ways to cope with stress. If I did not exercise on a regular basis, I would probably get arrested for choking someone. (Only kidding – I would never hurt anyone, but sometimes I feel so stressed that I feel like hitting someone or something.)
When you engage in regular aerobic activity, you can almost feel the stress flowing out of your body. And after a while, your body begins to secrete endorphins, its own ‘feel good’ chemicals. Exercise is also great for managing your mood and it has been shown to be useful in healing anxiety and depression.
Simple Meditation – When you feel stressed, you can do a simple meditation by closing your eyes, breathing at a comfortable pace, and silently repeating the word peace to yourself. Progressive Muscle Relaxation – With this technique, you sit or lie down and then you tighten (not too hard) and then relax different muscle groups throughout your body. You can start from your toes (first tightening the muscles, then releasing them) and then work your way up to the top of your head.
Sleep – Many people do not get enough sleep. If you don’t sleep enough then you will probably find yourself getting annoyed by things that normally would not bother you. When your body is exhausted because you don’t get enough sleep or you aren’t sleeping well, it becomes incredibly difficult to handle stress. How much sleep is enough? According to experts, most people need between 7 – 9 hours of sleep each night. Getting enough sleep should be one of your top priorities. Time Management – Learning how to manage your time is a great way for you to get rid of stress in your life (at least some stress). Determine what is important to you so you can prioritize your activities. Work with to do lists. Learn to say no to things that will cause you to get to the point of feeling overwhelmed.
You will always have to deal with stress in your life. You might want to try the Relaxation Kit or the Stress Relief Kit to help you manage your stress. Give yourself the gift of healing by using these stress reducers or any others that work for you. You want your life to be one of quality and joy. When you learn how to effectively deal with your stress, you are well on your way to achieving that goal.
