Della Menechella – Licensed Minister – Spiritual Guide and Mentor

My name is Della Menechella. I am a Licensed Minister and a Spiritual Guide and Mentor. This was not the path that I consciously chose, but it is where I ended up.

Let me tell you a little bit about myself and how I ended up as a New Thought Minister and teacher.

As a child, I grew up in a very dysfunctional family. Both of my parents were major alcoholics. By the time I became a teenager, I don’t think a single day went by that my father and mother did not drink. And I mean drink a lot!

In addition to being an alcoholic, my father was extremely violent. It seems that his favorite pastime was beating up my mother. When I was a child as young as five, I was forced to stay up until the wee hours of the morning watching my father brutally beat up my mother. This went on for years and years.

Eventually, my parents got divorced. My relationship with my father ended at that time. I still had an active relationship with my mom, although it took her many years before she finally became sober.

The bright spot during my time living at home, was meeting my wonderful husband Michael. He is definitely a blessing. I used to say, “He is God’s gift to me in spite of myself,” because I never, ever wanted to get married. I'm glad that I was smart enough to change my mind and marry Michael. It was definitely one of the best decisions that I've ever made.

I didn’t consciously decide to follow a spiritual path. I actually began to study New Thought material out of desperation. My husband and I experienced a terrible ordeal with infertility. We were actively going through medical treatment with top specialists, but nothing worked.

That’s when I became friendly with Cathy, who was an avid student of spirituality. She began to teach me that my negative thoughts and words (I used to tell people at work that I didn’t want to have children, even though I was actively trying to have them), were actually preventing me from being able to conceive. That was my first introduction to the power of the subconscious mind and Infinite Intelligence.

I am a quick student, so I immediately changed what I was saying to others about not wanting to have children. I said daily affirmations about being a mother and I visualized myself being pregnant. Within 6 months, I conceived my first child even though nothing changed medically. I had a second child and then I thought I knew everything I needed to know about spirituality.

When my oldest son turned six, I decided to become part of a Unity Church spiritual community. I know how much easier and more enjoyable spiritual awakening can be when you join with people who believe the same things you do. Eventually, I switched to a different type of New Thought church where I regularly attended Sunday services, but that was about the extent of my involvement. I was a casual spiritual seeker.

I became panic stricken because I was afraid that we would lose our house and everything else. I became a very serious spiritual seeker.

I took every class that was offered at our spiritual center. I wasn’t planning on becoming a minister; I was really just trying to understand how life worked. After almost nine years of classes, I became a Licensed New Thought Minister. As I evolved as a minister, I became a Spiritual Guide and Mentor.

I think the two things that describe my approach to spirituality are – compassion and practical application. Since I went through so much pain growing up, I know how it feels to struggle and not feel worthy to receive life’s blessings. I also have no patience for what I call ‘airy fairy fluff.’ If I see someone who has achieved a certain level of good, I want to know how they were able to accomplish it – what were they thinking, what did they do, what were their strategies. I want to be able to do it too!

And that is how I teach. I teach practical spiritual ideas with a compassionate and loving heart. And I am very interested in results. I know that spirituality is not something that you just think about; it is something that you live. And it is also something that allows you to experience more good in every aspect of your life.
