Take an Inventory
Take a look over the past year, or five years, and take an inventory of your life and business/career. Honestly decide what is working and should be continued and what isn’t working and needs to be changed.
Focus on What’s Working
Too often we reflect on those areas in our lives that are problems for us and we would like to change. What about considering what is working and should be continued? Most of us do some things very well and if we find ways to do them even better, we can easily improve the quality of our lives.
Very often our strengths, especially if we work to continually improve them, can overcome many of our weaknesses.
Minor Changes Yield Big Results
Now what about those areas that could benefit from some improvement? Usually we want to make major changes in a very short period of time. The task then becomes overwhelming because it requires us to make too many changes at one time, so we give up in frustration.
Instead of trying to make major changes, why not opt for a series of minor changes? Minor changes are easier to accomplish and the success you achieve at each level often leads to future successes.
Break your goal down into small steps. Do these steps, one at a time, until you achieve a level of comfort and then add additional steps. Each small change will lead you to your ultimate goal. As the saying goes, “How do you eat an elephant?” -- one slice at a time. You make long lasting changes the same way -- one step at a time.
Step by Step
Are you going to continue doing things the same way or are you finally ready to get the results you want?
Consider what you do well and improve upon it. Decide what you want to change and proceed to do so -- one step at a time. By applying this easy strategy on a consistent basis, you can discover that you have actually achieved your goals.

Fear. Just saying the word conjures up negative emotions. Fear can be a good thing when our safety is at risk. But for most people, fear is not useful. It can prevent you from doing those things that are important to you. Whenever you attempt to move out of your comfort zone, you will probably experience fear. You can let it stop you or you can learn how to master it and continue moving forward.
You choose what anything means. Instead of looking at fear as something to avoid, see it as an indication that you are growing and making progress towards your goals. You’re not stuck. You’re taking action which will lead you to realize your dreams. It’s a cause for celebration.
Interrupt the emotion of fear by changing your focus and how you’re using your body. If you are in a limiting posture (looking down, rounded shoulders, shallow breathing) change it. Stand/sit up straight, put your shoulders back, breathe deeply, and smile. These postures will help you feel confident and strong. You can also change your focus by asking yourself, “How can I handle this powerfully and feel great doing it?”
Turn your attention to the Divine within. It is all powerful, all good, and is always willing to support you. When you recognize that you aren’t alone, the fear will evaporate.
Your beliefs about yourself and your life contribute to your experience of fear. Many of your beliefs are negative and disempowering. When you feel fear, see it as an invitation to examine your beliefs. They are a choice. Let go of beliefs which don’t serve you. Choose to believe empowering ideas instead.
Just like you have an alert on your car which lets you know you need to pay attention to something before it becomes a major problem, fear can let you know when your thinking needs to change. Whatever you focus on expands. If you are continually running negative scenarios in your mind, you need to change your thoughts before you attract the corresponding negative conditions into your life. Be grateful that you’ve been given the opportunity to make necessary changes.
Fear is a part of life. You can never escape it; you can only learn to control it. Use these strategies and you will discover that fear no longer holds you back.
Many people ask me what my favorite books on spirituality are. These are the books I read over and over again.
This has so many valuable ideas that I can’t count them all. When I was facing a major financial challenge years ago, I kept this book by my bed and read it daily. Goldsmith’s chapters on ‘Supply’ and ‘The Secret of the 23rd Psalm’ will help you really understand that God is your source.
This is one of my favorite spiritual books. Barker tells you that your decisions (or lack of decisions) are the major cause of what is happening in your life. His chapters on ‘Decide to Live Richly’ and ‘Decide to be Creative’ contain so many great ideas that I have highlighted and underlined almost every sentence in them.
This tells you how to transform your major negative thoughts so they stop creating chaos in your life. Bailes’ suggestions about what to do when you can’t get your feelings to be positive is outstanding. And it works!
Anytime I (or one of my clients) have some physical challenge, I refer to this to identify the metaphysical reason for it. Every pain or disorder is caused by a false belief and this book is a wonderful resource to discover what incorrect thoughts you are holding which may be causing your condition. Hay also provides specific affirmations to help transform your negative thoughts.
This is an action guide for how to use spirituality to create a life of success and abundance. Holmes tells you how to direct your thoughts when you want something but you aren’t experiencing it yet. His comment on ‘seeing what you want to see regardless of what appears’ is brilliant.
This is my go-to book when I feel extremely overwhelmed and I can’t summon my faith. My favorite chapters are ‘God is in This Experience’ and ‘God Will Turn it to Good’. I can’t tell you how many times I have read these chapters when it seemed like my entire world was falling apart.
Get these books and read them regularly. You’ll be glad you did!
Some times when you are working towards a big goal, things don’t go exactly as planned. Problems come up. Delays happen. Your faith and confidence that you can achieve what you want starts to get shaky. You may begin to feel like you will never accomplish your goal.
At this point, you may be tempted to give up. But this is the worst thing you can do. Turning back in discouragement will never get you where you want to go. You need to dig deeper and to continue moving forward on your path to success.
Although we look at successful people and think it was easy for them to accomplish their goals, this is usually not the case. Most people who have achieved high levels of success did not have an easy time during their journey. They encountered obstacles. They doubted their own ability to succeed. They were tempted to throw in the towel. However, their belief that they would one day be successful was so strong, they kept on going. Eventually they were rewarded with the success they were seeking.
How do you get yourself to keep on going when the road gets really tough? How do you motivate yourself to continue taking action when it feels like you will never get what you want?
You focus on the idea that perseverance pays off. Life is on your side. The Universe supports you in your efforts to achieve your goal. Listen to his words, especially when you feel like you are at the edge of your rope and you are ready to quit.
You are greater than any negative circumstances you might be facing. Focus on your goal. Continue moving forward. Know that with the power of the Universe on your side, eventually your dream can become your reality.

Optimism Action Plan
Focus on the Positives–When you see the sunny side of everything and only expect the best, you are actually directly the Law of Attraction to bring more good into your life. Ask yourself, “What’s good about this situation?” Start each day asking yourself, “What blessings will show up for me today?”
Forget Mistakes, Don’t Criticize–When you focus on negative things like mistakes and criticism, you are inviting the Law of Attraction to bring more negative things into your experience. If you do this--stop--then ask yourself, “What good idea can I focus on instead?”
Greater Than Experiences–If negative experiences show up in your life, don’t dwell on them or let them get you upset. Otherwise, you will be keeping them more firmly planted in your life. Tell yourself, “I am greater than any experience. I can direct the power of the Universe which can transform any situation. This is what I choose instead and I know it is manifesting now.”
Attitude of Increase–When you have a cheerful smile and make others feels better, you are maintaining an attitude of increase. When you enrich other people’s lives,the Universe will enrich your life too.
Work on Yourself–Read spiritual truth daily. Work on controlling your thinking so you can focus on what you want to experience. Be aware of your thoughts and, if they are negative, change them.
Follow these steps consistently and you will be able to create a life that brings you more joy than you ever thought possible.
